چکیده

The present paper is concerned mainly with two problems: the fine structural changes of the thyroid gland after hypophysectomy and the inhibition of the endocytic effect of TSH by actinomycin D. It has been well known that the thyroid gland is stimulated by the TSH secreted from the adenohypophysis. Numerous papers have been published dealing with the electron microscopy of the thyroid gland following the injection of TSH (WISSIG 1963, FUJITA 1963, 1968, SHELDON et al. 1964, STEIN and GROSS 1964, WETZEL et al. 1965, SELJELID 1967 a, b, c, etc.). However, as to the fine structure of the thyroid after hypophysectomy, information is scarce except for the papers of DEMPSEY and PETERSON (1955), KUROSUMI (1964, personal communication), WETZEL et al. (1965), SELJELID (1967), and SCHWARZ (1967); finer pictures and more detailed descriptions seem needed. Numerous authors have reported that large droplets appear in the apical part of the follicular cell from 5 minutes to several hours after injection of TSH. These large droplets have recently been regarded as an endocytic reabsorbed colloid by autoradiographic and microinjection methods (SHELDON et al. 1964, STEIN and GROSS 1964, BAUER and MEYER 1964, EKHOLM and SMEDS 1966, SELJELID 1967 a, b, FUJITA 1968). The present authors who have studied the effect of TSH and actinomycin D on the thyroid gland of the hypophysectomized rat, noticed by chance that the endocytic action of TSH is inhibited by actinomycin D.

Estrogen potentiation of the effect of thyrotrophin on thyroid 131I uptake in hypophysectomized female rats.

The daily administration of ƒÀ-estradiol benzoate (50ƒÊg or I mg) to hypophysectomized female rats for five consecutive days did not markedly alter 131I uptake by the thyroid gland. Estrogen or PMS increased thyroid uptake of 131I in TSH treated hypophysectomized rats. Similar results were obtained with estrogen but not PMS in hypophysectomized and oophorectomized animals. These observations sh...

The Relationship between Thyroid Hormones, Vitamin D and Fasting Blood Glucose Level During Summer and Winter in Nondiabetic Adults

Background and Aims: 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 is recognized to be an essential element for healthy body; however, its deficiency has been identified as a risk factor for thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus and other autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases. Thyroid disease is common in the general population that its prevalence increases proportional to age. Subjects with poorly controlled diabe...

اثر عصاره متانولی سویا بر غلظت سرمی هورمون‌های تیروئید و تیروتروبین در رت‌های اواریکتومی شده

Introduction: Foods including soy and dietary supplements are widely used for health benefits, particularly by menopausal women. Serum levels of T3 and T4 decrease in ovariectomized animals and on the other hand, Estradiol can increase levels of thyroid hormones. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effects of soy extract on the thyroid hormones in ovariectomized rats. Methods:...

Objective: Some previous studies have shown that protective effect of caffeine against induction of apoptosis through in the regulation of pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic caffeine administration on the interactions among of Bax and Bcl-2 proteins in the cardiac tissue of induced type two diabetic rats. Methods: In exp...

Effect of lead on thyroid hormones and liver enzymes in adult male rats

Introduction: Lead is a heavy metal that could be an environmental pollutant. It is a natural metal that exists in water and soil, enters the body through digestive or respiratory systems. The researches showed that various amounts of lead has some effects on the endocrine glands and metabolic activities of the body. So, in this research, we studied and compared the effects of different amoun...
